Grizzly Peak, The Cliff Eye Route (West Face)
FA- G.Cornell, Aug.2005
It can be rewarding to give a rather boring mountain slog a better, faster, baggable route. Grizzly Peak above Hwy#40 can now be done from the roadside in 2.5hrs up a 4th class gully, avoiding the march around back disturbing the flocks of sheep. Hike up the west slope to a gully left of center and follow cairns around a cliff. From the road you are aiming for a feature near the top that looks like an eyeball.
Continue until the walls close then go right into the next gully which is followed straight up over five short cliffs, the crux(4th) being a vertical 20 footer. Once at the eyeball, now unrecognizable along the summit band, take a ramp up to the summit and cairn ten feet further. Descend north to Grizzly Creek.
*descent not recommended without a rope
