Raspberry Ramble, 200+m, 5.10a
FA – Pitches 1 -7, T.Devonshire and G.Cornell June, 2003
This was one of Tony’s favorite ongoing projects and I was happy to say I helped him get up at least half way on this route which he named Raspberry Ramble. We believe he eventually finished it but we are not sure with whom or if he rope-soloed it which was highly possible.
Hike up to the long cave from Hwy#1. The route starts meters just right of the cave entrance and goes up a dark blank slab(bolts) to a bolted anchor on a ledge. From here it coninues up and the anchors are bolted as far as pitch 7 but may go to the top, be prepared to build your own. There is spectacular pitch that goes up and left over a fun roof on gear. On the initial attempt we found an old piton just down and left of the roof that was barely placed and may be part of the Bill Davidson route “Overhang Route” which weaves somewhere nearby. Bring some gear typical of this wall. The thing I remember most about climbing this with Tony was drilling on lead and a foot ledge busting sending me down onto a pink Tricam and fear of a hot drill bit searing the rope!
If anyone has any further info past pitch 7 please let us know, thanks, so we can add a proper topo at a later date.
