Syncline Mountain, 4th Class via East Face Gully
FA- G.Cornell, June 2010
Way down south off the Crowsnest Highway is a pretty drive south toward Castle Ski Hill.
You will see your descent as you drive, the normal way up via the north ridge which is not pleasant up or down, especially the lower half, really bushy, once is enough, therefore this makes a much better way.
Park near a open area on the west about 26km down the road, near a bend and basically the end of Syncline Mountain. The route ascends the obvious watercourse and up to rock band, breaking through it on hard 4th class moves, but fun, then scree and summit soon after.
Descend via the easy and normal north ridge which is nice as the views are wonderful. Once you get close to the bottom runout and creek, find cairns lost in the messy tangle of bush overrunning the trail(if you wanna call it that). Head straight east to the road.
