Easiest Kid’s Route
I hunt for decent rock routes for my youngin to climb on and the best one to take a young beginner to is the right side route of D Slab in the cascading gully which leads to a two bolt bealy on a good ledge with a pine tree.
**Even though these will be randomly selected from north or south, east or west, I have decided to keep them together in this one heading in Rock South**
The next graduation climb for little little kids is found in the South Rock section for Crowsnest Slab AKA Knob Hill , these are easy to access and kids will enjoy them and there is even a bolted 5.3.
Go up Heart Creek and if my memory serves me correct, just past the 7th bridge is a bolted slab on the north side and a tiny slog up, but nothing much. Rippled friction slab at a low angle. (see two pics below)
Rundle Rock in Banff is good too for a starter kid, top-roping the slab and groove that face the golf access road, then graduating to the steeper pocketed east face.(see one pic below)
Morro Slabs about 20km north of Jasper along the river and a few minutes from the parking lot is a wonderful place to top-rope the youngins.
The newly popular(you should have seen what this wall looked like in the 90s!) Sunshine Slabs west of Banff has some selectively good TR routes with juggy holds for beginners and less than a minute from the car makes a wonderful place to show the ropes.
