The Lost Haulbag
found by G.Cornell, Sept.2010
It was like finding Mallory on the side of Everest. In September of 2010 while hiking under the massive north face of Gibraltor one of the team members walked away while the other was having lunch and he spotted something. He quickly scrambled slabs over to the discovery which was found on a patch of scree. It is either the haulbag from the 1980s route on the north face or possibly the Davidson/White route of the early 70s. It would be great to confirm which party may have dropped, lost or tossed the yellow bag with enforced strapping around it. We only took pictures and left it there for others to enjoy.
*After doing a Calgary Mountain Club slide show promoting Kananaskis Obscure 3 and this website, some of the older members says looking at some of the homemade stitching done, it likely was that of the Billy Davidson team.
Take a narrow boulderly gully up from the valley floor to under the slabs of the face, about 200m left of the Davidson route. It can be found just past treeline. Expect an hour hike from the valley floor. The 8-10km approach to Gibraltar is best done by bicycle.
